GOOPAX ist ein Programmiersystem für GPGPU-Anwendungen, bei denen
Grafikkarten für allgemeine Berechnungen genutzt werden. Durch ihre
parallele Architektur bieten Grafikkarten eine um ein Vielfaches höhere
Rechenleistung als CPUs. Bei herkömmlichen GPGPU-Programmiersystemen ist
die Programmierung jedoch oft so kompliziert, dass ihre Verwendung auf
einfache Anwendungen begrenzt ist. GOOPAX führt ein neues Konzept in die
GPGPU-Programmierung ein: eingebettete Programmierung. Das ermöglicht
es, auch komplexere Anwendungen auf der Grafikkarte auszuführen, und
führt zu einer Reihe von Vorteilen: zum Beispiel die einfache, intuitive
Programmierung direkt in C++, ein perfektes Zusammenspiel von Host- und
Devicecode und die hohe Performance durch Meta-Programmierung, Profiling
und Just-in-time.Kompilierung. Außerdem sind eine Hardwareunabhängigkeit
bei maximaler Performance auf allen gängigen Grafikkarten und
Betriebssystemen sowie hohe Zuverlässigkeit durch automatische
Fehlerüberprüfung gegeben.
